- July 12, 2024 - The EPA invites nominations from a diverse range of qualified candidates who desire to serve as members of the EPA’s Great Lakes Advisory Board. For appointment consideration, nominations should be submitted by July 30, 2024.
- July 10, 2024 - Thanks to funding from GLRI, the University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Great Waters Research Collaborative has been working with shipping companies to collect data on board Laker vessels to assess the performance of ballast water management systems.
- May 7, 2024 - The Forest Service is awarding $6.28 million in grants to support restoration projects on nonfederal lands in Great Lakes states. These projects improve the quality of water flowing into the Great Lakes through planting trees to intercept stormwater runoff and controlling invasive species.
- May 3, 2024 - A 10,000-acre national wildlife refuge in Michigan is the site of impressive GLRI-funded habitat restoration that reconnects rivers to floodplains. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is partnering with researchers and biologists to study how aquatic species use this coastal ecosystem.
- May 3, 2024 - GLRI funds support researchers working quickly to find solutions to an invasive species sweeping the Great Lakes - the red swamp crayfish. Researchers, in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, are hopeful as they try various combinations of management and eradication techniques.
- May 2, 2024 - To support the ongoing battle to reduce the destructiveness of invasive carp and the threats they pose to the Great Lakes, the Invasive Carp Regional Coordinating Committee announced the release of its annual Invasive Carp Action Plan for 2024.
- May 2, 2024 - The United States Geological Survey announces the availability of a new online, interactive water-quality dashboard for 24 major U.S. tributaries to the Great Lakes.
- May 1, 2024 - Toledo Public School students contribute to a stream restoration project in the Maumee AOC funded by the GLRI with support from H2Ohio.
- April 30, 2024 - The EPA Great Lakes National Program Office selects four applicants to run Great Lakes Environmental Justice Grant Programs to provide funding to underserved and overburdened communities throughout the Great Lakes basin.
- April 26, 2024 - GLRI funds have enabled nearly 800 participants to participate in DRYFT, a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service program based in Detroit, Michigan. By teaching youth to fish, this nature-focused experiential project will create opportunities to learn about local environments while developing lifelong outdoor skills.
