Neighborhood Dairy of Outagamie County, Wisconsin has a long history of implementing conservation practices with assistance from NRCS, dating back to 1998. Neighborhood Dairy has received support from Environmental Quality Incentives Program funds provided through the GLRI for practices ranging from improving nutrient management and manure handling, establishing filter strips, cover crops, and no-till fields, and most recently installing a two-stage ditch to reduce sediment and nutrient loading and promote proper drainage.
Both Mark and Joe Van Asten are active members of the GLRI-funded Lower Fox Demonstration Farms Network. They hosted an on-farm field day to share their experiences and demonstrate the use of low-disturbance manure application equipment. Congressman Mike Gallagher attended to highlight the innovation of Wisconsin demonstration farmers.
