Taxonomic study of rare non-native zooplankton species Cyclops strenuus results in reclassification of earlier identifications of this species in the Great Lakes
EPA GLNPO Great Lakes Biology Monitoring Program cooperators at Cornell University reexamined zooplankton specimens identified as Cyclops strenuus from the St Marys River and from western Lake Erie. Their study reclassifies C. strenuus as two different non-native zooplankton species and resolves a long-standing debate regarding the identity of these rare Cyclops specimens in the Great Lakes.

EPA Awards $3 Million to the University of Minnesota Duluth to Monitor Phytoplankton Communities in the Great Lakes
EPA has awarded a grant totaling $3,000,000 to the University of Minnesota Duluth as part of the Great Lakes Biology Monitoring Program. The program will continue to assess the status of the foundation of the food web as it responds to ecological and anthropogenic stressors.
