NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management, the Coastal States Organization, and Great Lakes coastal management programs are helping advance habitat restoration projects in all eight Great Lakes states that will stabilize streambanks, enhance habitat for fish, minimize erosion, and restore degraded wetlands. Using funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, NOAA and its partners are helping local communities and organizations develop engineering and design plans that will make them eligible to apply for federal grants to fund the project construction. This effort has already proven successful for projects in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
