On August 24, 2026, the Great Lakes Commission announced the creation of a new online resource to help prevent the spread of invasive species. Developed in collaboration with the National Sea Grant Law Center, the new AquaSale database allows buyers and sellers to check state and federal regulations on various plant and animal species to maintain compliance with applicable laws.
Funding for AquaSale was provided in part by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative through a grant agreement between the GLC and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
