The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) celebrates the completion of the first of two construction seasons at the Thomson Reservoir Remedial Action project in the St. Louis River Area of Concern.

The last remaining BUI in the Michigan AOC, the Degradation of Benthos, was removed after federal, state, and local partners determined that measures of benthic community health met established criteria.

The US Army Corps of Engineers, EPA, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, and local partners have reached a significant milestone by beginning the construction of a multi-year coastal wetland habitat restoration project in the Buffalo Outer Harbor Slip #3. The project uses clean sediment dredged from the navigation channel to create wetland habitat that will benefit native plants, fish, and birds and the local community.

The Great Lakes Commission has issued a request for proposals for the 2024 Great Lakes Sediment and Nutrient Reduction Grants Program. Applications are due at 5 p.m. Eastern on April 29, 2024. 

Scientists will analyze Lake Superior sediment collected in Sept. 2021 to track spatial and temporal distributions of contaminants in sediment in the lake.
